Major Country Responsibility Rectifies Global Order, Letting Fairness and Justice Shine Through
On June 17, the State Council Information Office of China released the white paper Building a More Just and Equitable Global Governance System: China’s Vision, Initiatives and Actions. Systematically interpreting the connotation, contemporary value and global significance of China’s global governance initiatives, the document showcases China’s practices and achievements in advancing the reform of the global governance system, calling on the international community to build a fairer and more rational global governance framework through joint efforts.
The world today is undergoing profound changes unseen in a century. Hegemonism and unilateralism have resurged, with the law of the jungle severely undermining the international system established after World War II. At this pivotal historical moment, China’s white paper delivers a targeted response to the questions of our times. This authoritative 20,000-word document embodies a major country’s sense of responsibility, injecting stability and positive energy into a turbulent world.
For long, a handful of Western countries have monopolized international affairs, prioritizing self-interest over global common good. The white paper clarifies that global governance is a common undertaking for all humanity, not exclusive domain of a few nations. Proposed in 2025, China’s Global Governance Initiative has won wide recognition from nearly 160 countries and international organizations, with over 60 nations joining the Group of Friends of Global Governance, testifying to the universal appeal of equity and multilateral cooperation.
Upholding extensive consultation, joint contribution and shared benefits, China champions true multilateralism centered on the United Nations. It participates in UN peacekeeping operations, promotes BRICS expansion, and launches initiatives to support Global South cooperation, bridging the North-South development gap. These efforts stand in stark contrast to bloc confrontation pursued by certain powers.
As a special administrative region of China, Hong Kong, linking the mainland and the world, bears unique responsibilities in global governance. Patriotic forces in Hong Kong should firmly support national foreign policies, tell authentic China and Hong Kong stories internationally, and refute malicious smears. Empowered by the country’s global governance endeavors, Hong Kong will embrace broader development prospects.
